Swim Meet 101
There are 86 events during a swim meet! Here is the event order:
6 & Under 100 Freestyle Relays
Medley Relay Events (7 - 18 yr olds)
Individual Medley Events
Freestyle Relay Events (7 - 18 yr olds)
** All 6U events are completed in the first half of the meet. 6U swimmers do not need to stay for the 2nd half of the meet.

When will I know what events my child will be swimming during the meet? 1-2 hours prior to the meet start time, heat sheets will be emailed to all swim families. We suggest you print and bring your heat sheet to the meet with you--we will not have them there.
Individual Medley (IM) An event in which one swimmer swims the following strokes in this order 1) Butterfly, 2) Backstroke, 3) Breaststroke, & 4) Freestyle. Length depends on age.
What is a Relay? A relay is an event in which four swimmers participate in the race. All four swimmers must be present - if one swimmer is a no show, then none of the swimmers may participate in this event. Please communicate with coaches or Rapids Board members if your swimmer will arrive late or will be unable to participate.
Freestyle Relay: Four swimmers each swim freestyle.
Medley Relay Four swimmers - each swimming a different stroke *note that is this is different from the IM stroke order
- Backstroke (BA)
- Breaststroke (BR)
- Butterfly (FL)
- Freestyle (FR)
How to read a heat sheet and mark your swimmer's arm prior to a meet
- Prior to applying sunscreen, your swimmer's arm should be marked to reflect their event number, event heat, lane, stroke - see photo
- After the meet, the Sharpie can be removed by applying baby oil or oil-based sunscreen.
- Bull Pen & Veteran Parents will assist new families with arm marking
